      Chandigarh August 21Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Mohali is likely to be operational by November. In a joint visit to the construction site Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan and Dr RA Badwe Director Tata Memorial Centre Mumbai reviewed the progress of the project. The Chief Secretary said the 300-bed state-of-the-art hospital would act as a tertiary care centre for the entire northern region. “The hospital will start radiotherapy radiology CT scan MRI ultrasound X-ray mammography medical oncology chemotherapy day-care ward pathology and lab facilities” she said.

Even as schools have been reopened for students of primary to higher classes in Punjab the authorities are making little effort to comply with the Covid norms. During a visit to government schools in Mohali this correspondent found that students as well as teachers were neither wearing masks nor maintaining social distance. “Some teachers also don't wear masks while teaching or checking our notebooks. Recently the Sub-Divisional Magistrates of three sub-divisions of Mohali had conducted a surprise check of schools in their respective areas and ordered the closure of four of these for the non-compliance of safety protocols.

      Mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu said a new road had been constructed over this sewerage line. The road up to Kumbhra chowk would be renovated and dedicated to residents within the next 10 days he said. This road has been completely closed on the Phase 10 side in front of Kumbhra Chowk. He said Rs10 crore was being spent on the construction of the road after laying the sewer line. Five water boosters with uninterrupted water supply are also being installed in different areas.

      Mohali August 20Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu today handed over debt-relief certificates to landless farmers of Mohali district under the 5th phase of the debt relief scheme. Sidhu said: “Loans worth Rs1148.42 lakh have been waived for farmers in the district today.” The main function was held at Anandpur Sahib in which Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh launched the scheme and the state waived loan worth Rs520 crore for 2.85 lakh farm labourers and landless farming members of primary agricultural cooperative societies.

    • Mohali Balongi police recover 6 more stolen two wheelers | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceMohali August 12The Balongi police have recovered six more two-wheelers - four motorcycles and two Activa scooters - from the two suspects who were arrested here on Tuesday. The suspects have been identified as Bansal Kumar a native of Chadosi village in Uttar Pradesh and Sunil Kumar a native of Ranikata village in Bihar. The police had produced them in a court which remanded them to two-day police custody. The police had recovered two motorcycles from their possession. The SHO of the Balongi police station said during investigation the accused informed them that they had stolen more vehicles.
