      Mohali December 1The district administration today ordered the imposition of the night curfew in the district today onward. District Magistrate Girish Dayalan said the night curfew would be imposed from 10 pm to 5 am in the district. He said the authorities should also ensure wearing of a mask by residents not spitting and frequent use of hand wash/sanitiser by all in public places. The DM further informed that the penalty for not wearing a mask and spitting in public places has been enhanced from Rs500 to Rs1000 for each violation. Any violations shall invite criminal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Disaster Management Act 2005 and the IPC.
    • Ex councillor 2 others injured
      Mohali December 1The police have arrested one person and booked several others on the attempt-to-murder charge for allegedly attacking three persons including a former Mohali councillor at Sohana last night. The suspects have been identified as Jagtar Singh Avtar Singh Gurmeet Singh Harpreet Singh all residents of Sukhgarh village. Around 10 unidentified persons have also been booked. Victim Jarnail Singh told the police that he his brother Sahib Singh and former councillor Surinder Singh Rajput were cleaning his shop when the suspects came and beat them up.

      Mohali November 29The district administration today prohibited the functioning of stone crushers and screening plants for mining-related work from 8 pm to 6 am. District Magistrate Girish Dayalan issued the orders while exercising his powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973. He said mining machinery like excavators JCBs etc. would not be used during the period. If the load on vehicles used for mining exceeded the prescribed capacity of 12 metric tonnes it would be considered as a violation of the government instruction. Therefore action would be taken against those who fill up the mining equipment in excess of the prescribed load he added.

''We will definitely help these children through our Milkha Charitable Trust. The privileged section of society should come forward to help needy people and make a difference in their lives'' he said. A case has been registered at the Phase 8 police station in Mohali.

Development works such as the installation of paver blocks repair of manholes and desilting of sewer lines will be carried out for Rs1.08 crore — Rs11.97 lakh for the construction of RCC Chajja on the shops of Palika Market Phase 11; Rs 31.14 lakh for the installation of paver blocks in Mundi Complex Sector 70; Rs6.13 lakh for repairing of manholes and desilting of sewer line in Mundi Complex Sector 70; Rs14 lakh for laying of paver blocks and other miscellaneous works in Sector 71; Rs13.13 lakh for the development of parks in Sector 71; and Rs32.10 lakh for the installation of paver blocks in Baba Deep Singh Nagar Sohana. Sidhu said development works worth Rs4.40 crore were already going on for the internal development of the residential societies.

      Mohali November 16One more fatality was witnessed due to Covid in the district during the past 24 hours taking the toll to 255. As many as 104 fresh cases were reported taking the tally to 13678 while 57 more patients were cured of the disease. Among the fresh cases 86 were reported from Mohali (urban) 11 from Dhakoli six from Gharuan and one from Kharar. The RT PCR test of staff of the district information and public relations office at the District Administrative Complex was conducted at Khel Bhawan. The report of all came out negative.

      Mohali, December 3Panic gripped the Phase 3B2 market after three LPG cylinder blasts here tonight. The blasts took place following a fire which broke out on the roof of a booth housing a cafe around 11 pm. Sources said LPG cylinders, along with a generator, were placed on the roof. “There was leakage in one of the cylinders that caught fire due to a spark in the generator,” said the sources. The police and fire engines reached the spot and doused the flames.

      BIOMEDICAL WASTETribune News ServiceMohali, November 12Officials of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) have decided to check records of all hospitals responsible for disposal of such waste here. The decision comes in wake of recovery of biomedical waste from a scrap dealer at Makhan Majra by Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee. It is to be noted that the waste in question reportedly belonged to a private hospital, located in Mohali. “We are yet to receive any information from our counterparts in Chandigarh in this connection,” said Sharma. He added that there was system of bar-coding in connection with disposal of such waste in the state.

      During a surprise check at the Phase 11 police station, located in Sector 66 here, power officials detected a ‘kundi’ connection being used to draw power illegally for the police station. The sources added that the power connection of the police station was snapped a few months ago over non-payment of bills. “After the power connection of the police station was snapped, the cops started stealing power through a ‘kundi’ connection. As per power officials, this is not the first instance of power theft involving local police. Earlier, the department had also caught cops stealing power at the Balongi and Mataur police stations.

      Akash GhaiTribune News ServiceMohali, November 7While the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) has been spending around Rs 4 crore a year on the maintenance of public parks, the job is not being done properly. “We (the MC) hired the services of four private players for maintenance of public parks, a total of 556. Cutting of grass and repairs of broken pathways and non-functional lights were awaited in several parks,” said Paramjit Singh Kahlon, SAD councillor. “Basically, the supervision of the parks’ maintenance is a job of the horticulture wing. As the Mohali MC has no such wing, the job is being done by the electrical wing, whose officials are not fully aware of the work in question,” alleged Sethi.
