      Tribune News ServiceMohali January 28As a pilot project basic legal advice will be given free of cost to the accused complainants victims and witnesses in the police stations of the Mohali district. Rajinder Singh Rai District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority stated this while presiding over the quarterly meeting of the DLSA at Judicial Complex in Sector 76 today. Rai said various issues related to legal services were discussed in detail in the meeting. He said despite the Covid pandemic free legal aid was given in 593 cases during 2020 472 detainees were granted interim bail and 72 prisoners were released on a parole. The police personnel were asked to inform the needy about the new pilot project.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Government of India had provided the certificate after the nominated agency - Quality Control of India - carried out the inspection of Mohali. The certification has been provided for fulfilling the criteria laid down for ODF++.

The district has seen 18856 cases so far while 17621 patients have been cured. The active case tally stands at 884. With no death reported on Wednesday the toll in the district stands at 351.

Mohali SSP Satinder Singh said the Kurali police received a tip-off that a few members of the gang were active in the area and might commit some crime. Darshan Singh was absconding in a murder case registered at the Civil Lines Bhiwani police station on November 1 2017. Manish Kumar was involved in a murder case registered at the Julka police station in Patiala district in 2016. The Bishnoi gang is involved in dacoities murders and extortion in Punjab Haryana Rajasthan and Chandigarh.

      Tribune News ServiceMohali January 22The district health authorities have set a target to prepare health insurance cards of 4.25 lakh people in Mohali district. Out of this 1.35 lakh cards have already been prepared. Disclosing this here today Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said the work of preparing cards for registered families and farmers holding J forms under the Public Health Insurance Scheme in Mohali district was in full swing. A spokesperson for the District Health Department said in order to expedite the process the cards were being made by setting up camps in streets and mohallas in urban areas and villages of the district. The spokesperson said various teams of a company named Vidal had been authorised by the state health agency to make this card.

Passersby nabbed one of the robbers Jaspinder Gir (25). Vinod was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he was discharged after treatment.

Layer farm owners cautious Vicky Kalra a poultry farm owner in Dera Bassi said: “There is no panic among poultry farmers here. However layer farms (dealing in hen eggs) are keeping a more guarded approach while broiler farms (dealing in chicken)have mostly cleared out their stock.” Business insiders says layer farm bird's life is of 18 months while a broiler farm bird's life is 35 days only. Meanwhile poultry farm owners in the Dera Bassi area said disinfectant was being sprayed from time to time at the farms. Conservative estimates peg the bird population in Dera Bassi area around 20 lakh.
