      Tribune News ServiceMohali January 7The Mohali police have arrested the manager of a city-based company and booked its owner for defrauding people of several lakhs of rupees on the pretext of providing jobs. The suspects have been identified as Nitin a resident of Pehowa in Kurukshetra district and the owner of Weft Technology Company Sector 70 Mohali and Harwinder Singh a resident of Aluna Bana village near Payal in Ludhiana district and the manager of the company. On December 5 she received a call from the office of Weft Technology Company in Sector 70 Mohali to appear for an interview on December 7. The accused had duped several youths of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of providing jobs. The owner of the firm was absconding.

    • YAD activists burn effigies of PM Modi Capt Amarinder | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Mohali January 9Youth Akali Dal (YAD) activists led by its president Parmbans Singh Romana burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh here today. Romana said on the directions of the BJP-led Central Government Capt Amarinder was targeting those writers and singers who had supported the farm protests. He said the state government was dancing to the tune of the Centre and trying to cause maximum damage to the farmers' agitation. The YAD would give a befitting reply to these conspiracies being hatched by the state government. YAD Mohali (Urban) president Parvinder Singh Sohana asked the Central and the state governments to stop their conspiracies against the farmers' agitation and stop targeting writers and singers.
    • Two deaths 31 cases in Mohali | CHANDIGARH NYOOOZ
      Mohali: Two persons died due to Covid-19 during the past 24 hours taking the district toll to 340. Besides 31 fresh cases were reported till Tuesday evening while 51 patients were cured of the disease. Among the fresh cases 25 were from Mohali (urban) four from Gharuan and one each from Banur and Dhakoli. So far the district has witnessed 18049 cases and 16545 patients have been cured.

      Tribune News ServiceMohali January 5The Punjab Youth Development Board (PYDB) is committed towards development and welfare of the youth of the state and it will launch the “Youth of Punjab Campaign” on January 7. Under the campaign sports kits would be distributed among all active rural sports clubs state-wide. Bindra said: “Five best performing youth clubs of Mohali district have been selected. These clubs will be felicitated and handed over sports kits by the Punjab Chief Minister during the launch ceremony of the campaign. The PYDB chairman hoped that those budding players who were not so fortunate to afford personal sports infrastructure or had no access to sports equipment would avail maximum benefit out of the sports kits being provided to the rural youth clubs.

In December the death toll had gone up to 340 in Mohali district while in November the toll stood at 279. In October the toll was recorded at 236 and in September it was 194. In the last month of the previous year the total number of positive Covid cases was 2715 whereas in November the number was 3219 — a decline of about 16 per cent. On September 30 there were 1714 positive cases exhibiting a decline of 69 per cent in October.
    • Tents set up for farmers help removed pitched again in Mohali Ph VII market | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Mohali January 7Resentment prevailed among the farming community over alleged dismantling of tents for the farmer support camp at the Phase VII market here by the police. Addressing the media here today leaders of Punjab Kisan Union Kanwaljit Singh and Amandeep Singh said the camp tents had been dismantled by the police. They said when they took the matter with the SSP the latter said no such order had been issued after which the tents were installed again. They demanded that the government should clarify at whose behest the police were working to stop the campaign for the farmers. They said some courageous youngsters of the district had been organising farmer support camps at the Phase VII market in the city to make people aware of the “black laws”.

      Mohali January 5One more Covid fatality was reported from the district during the past 24 hours taking the toll to 348. It also saw 36 fresh cases taking the tally to 18411 while 58 more patients were cured of the disease. Among the fresh cases 35 were reported from Mohali (urban) and one from Dhakoli. Of the 18411 positive cases reported from the district 17132 patients have been cured. There are now 931 active cases.

    • Mohali industry sends dry ration to protesting farmers | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceMohali January 2Expressing solidarity with farmers sitting on dharna at Singhu border near Delhi members of the Mohali Industries Association (MIA) gave dry ration and other essential items to the farmers. Yogesh Sagar president of the association said the entire industrial fraternity expressed solidarity with farmers sitting on dharna at the Delhi border. In this hour of crisis the industry stands with the farmers. Sagar said the association urged the Centre to resolve this matter amicably at the earliest so that the farmers sitting in protest could return peacefully to their houses. He said 36 members of the MIA went to Delhi and handed over dry ration packaged drinking water sweets spices blankets mufflers masks and medicines to the farmers.

      Mohali December 25A total of 48 fresh Covid cases surfaced in the district during the past 24 hours while 67 more persons recovered from the virus. Among the new cases 34 were reported from Mohali (urban) three from Gharuan one each from Banur and Dhakoli four from Dera Bassi and five from Kharar. The district has so far seen 17849 positive cases of whom 15984 patients have been cured. There are now 1530 active cases with 335 deaths in the district.

      Tribune News ServiceMohali January 1As many as 31 persons were booked for traffic violations while three vehicles were impounded by the Mohali police on the New Year's Eve. The police impounded the vehicles with liquor being brought from Chandigarh to Mohali. The female driver or co-drivers were given the option of getting dropped by a woman constable but all of them preferred to book cabs for their homes. DSP (Traffic) Guriqbal Singh said “Three cases have been registered at the Phase XI police station. There was no untoward incident in the city.”The police in Zirakpur issued traffic slips to 49 drivers for various violations today.

      Mohali December 31To digitally equip students of government schools the state government has provided smartphones to over 1.75 lakh boys and girls studying in Class XII said Cabinet Minister and local MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu after handing over smartphones to students at a district-level function in Mohali on Thursday. He said the scheme would continue in the next academic year as well. As many as 5671 students of Mohali district had been provided smartphones he said.

Attackers will be nabbed soon: Police The police have taken a recording of the CCTV footage for investigation. He stated that when he reached near his house and parked his car three youths who had their faces covered came there on a motorcycle. He said the two youths fled from the spot along with their accomplice who was waiting on the bike. The investigation officer accompanied by the SHO of the police station went to the hospital and recorded the victim's statement.

No death due to the disease was witnessed during this period while 93 more patients recovered from the virus.       In a novel way the residents who had gathered under the banner of the Sanyukt Kisan Morch started beating utensils when the Prime Minister started his speech. The protesting residents urged the PM to repeal the three farm laws and resolve the grievances of farmers. They said Mohali residents who did not have agricultural land should keep their conscience alive and criticise the false propaganda of PM Modi. They said the PM who had termed the protesting farmers as Khalistanis or terrorists was now inviting farmers to his house to participate in the Kirtan Darbar.
