District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DSLA) RS Rai accompanied by Shikha Goel Secretary DSLA took stock of the activities of all Benches at the district headquarters in Mohali. Rai said the judgments by the Lok Adalat were final and binding upon the parties. For the successful organisation of the e-National Lok Adalat Rai had called various meetings of judicial officers presidents and secretaries of bar associations officials of other departments such as banking electricity and labour.

Mann also announced five candidates for the elections Amarjeet Singh Walia from ward number four Harpal Singh from ward number 20 Balwinder Singh Balli from ward number 36 Gurbakhsh Singh from ward number 50 and Ravindra Kaur Gill from ward number 35. Mann addressing the media said property tax was a burning issue in Mohali as the government was charging a rate of 7.5 per cent. All Mohali villages should be exempted from property tax. The PDP spokesman Amarjit Singh Walia along with his supporters had announced his candidature for the MC elections.

      Tribune News ServiceMohali December 14A gunman of a senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader reportedly committed suicide today at his home in Purab Premium Apartments in Sector 88. The victim has been identified as Nareshpal (33) a native of Hoshiarpur district. The police said Nareshpal was married but staying alone here. We have called the parents of the victim and will initiate the proceedings after recording their statement. The victim was in Three Commando Batallion and posted as a gunman of a SAD leader staying in Sector 69.
    • 2 killed 10 injured in road mishap in Mohali | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceMohali December 14Two persons were killed and 10 injured after a pickup vehicle they were travelling on reportedly collided with a gravel-laden truck near Bhago Majra village. The incident took place around 10 pm when the victims were coming back after taking part in the farmers' protest at the Delhi border. The deceased have been identified as Sukhdev Singh (63) a resident of Dhadlian village in Fathehgarh Sahib and Deep Singh (80) of Popilian village in Mohali. The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital where the two of them were declared brought dead and the rest are being treated. Harvinder Singh Virk SP (City) said: “A case will be registered against the truck driver.”

The victim has been identified as Balkar Singh (50) a resident of Chuni Kalan village in Fatehgarh Sahib district. Balkar Singh was posted as an Assistant Sub-Inspector at the First India Reserve Battalion (IRB) Punjab. Mohali SP (City) HS Virk said “Balkar Singh was sitting inside a tent near the police naka. Balkar Singh was serving the police for the past around 30 years” said Brar.

      Tribune News ServiceChandigarh December 10Police investigation into the robbery attempt on a goldsmith in Sector 23 has revealed that three suspects including Jaspreet met at the market of Phase-V Mohali after the incident. The goldsmith Dadasho Devgan was at his shop along with his brother Sanjay when the incident happened. Rohit who is an acquaintance of the goldsmith then asked Jaspreet and the other two suspects to reach the shop. While Rohit waited outside the three suspects went inside the shop. The suspects escaped after the incident while Rohit was apprehended a few hours later.

    • Two more Covid 19 deaths in Mohali toll up to 290 | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceMohali December 5The Covid-19 death toll in Mohali climbed to 290 with two more fatalities in the last 24 hours even as 100 new cases pushed the infection tally in the district to 16168. Out of the 100 new cases 66 were reported from Mohali urban one each from Boothgarh and Kurali 14 from Kharar 11 from Gharuan and seven from Dera Bassi. The Health official said 122 patients had been cured and discharged from the hospitals in the last 24 hours. The district has so far registered 16168 positive cases out of which 13622 patients have been cured of the infection and discharged. There are 2256 active cases said the officials.

      Mohali December 2The Punjab Cabinet has approved the establishment of a university campus by a private education group in Mohali's IT city. The self-financed private university will come up on a 40 acre campus at a prime location with an investment of Rs664.32 crore over five years. Its first session is set to commence in June-July 2021.

      Mohali December 1The district administration today ordered the imposition of the night curfew in the district today onward. District Magistrate Girish Dayalan said the night curfew would be imposed from 10 pm to 5 am in the district. He said the authorities should also ensure wearing of a mask by residents not spitting and frequent use of hand wash/sanitiser by all in public places. The DM further informed that the penalty for not wearing a mask and spitting in public places has been enhanced from Rs500 to Rs1000 for each violation. Any violations shall invite criminal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Disaster Management Act 2005 and the IPC.
    • Ex councillor 2 others injured
      Mohali December 1The police have arrested one person and booked several others on the attempt-to-murder charge for allegedly attacking three persons including a former Mohali councillor at Sohana last night. The suspects have been identified as Jagtar Singh Avtar Singh Gurmeet Singh Harpreet Singh all residents of Sukhgarh village. Around 10 unidentified persons have also been booked. Victim Jarnail Singh told the police that he his brother Sahib Singh and former councillor Surinder Singh Rajput were cleaning his shop when the suspects came and beat them up.

      Mohali November 29The district administration today prohibited the functioning of stone crushers and screening plants for mining-related work from 8 pm to 6 am. District Magistrate Girish Dayalan issued the orders while exercising his powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973. He said mining machinery like excavators JCBs etc. would not be used during the period. If the load on vehicles used for mining exceeded the prescribed capacity of 12 metric tonnes it would be considered as a violation of the government instruction. Therefore action would be taken against those who fill up the mining equipment in excess of the prescribed load he added.
