      Mohali July 25A fine second innings performance by Jovanpreet Singh (65) and Aryan Bhatia (55) helped Mohali log an innings and 352-run win over Patiala to bag the Punjab Inter-District U-19 Cricket Tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy at IS Bindra Stadium here today. Resuming their second innings from 96/2 Mohali lads went on to score 260 runs. Bhatia was the next to go as Emanjot Singh claimed his wicket for 55 off 129 balls. Himanshu and Harshdeep Singh claimed one wicket each for the bowling side. Earlier in their first innings Mohali posted 390 runs in 152.1 overs.

      Tribune News ServiceMohali July 25Nine more persons were found infected with coronavirus during the past 24 hours taking the total number of cases to 68437 in the district. No new fatality was reported till Sunday evening while five patients were cured of the disease. Among the new cases five came from Mohali one from Gharuan and three from the Kharar area. A total of 2220 persons were administered the Covid jab at government and private vaccination centres across the district and 1323 of them received the second dose. A total of 637895 persons have been vaccinated in the district so far and 105377 of them have completed their vaccination schedule.

The team arrested four touts and recovered around 100 licences registration certificates files mobile phones and a laptop from their possession. The suspended employees are Kuldeep Singh clerk at the driving test track in Sector 82 Kamaljit Singh steno at the track Sector 82 and Gurmail Singh clerk at the RTA office in Sector 76. According to sources the touts were dealing with these officials and taking money from people to get their work done. The team arrested four touts and recovered around 100 licences registration certificates files mobile phones and a laptop from their possession.

      Mohali July 21The Vigilance Bureau arrested Pritpal Singh Junior Assistant District Education Officer (Elementary) while taking a bribe of Rs1 lakh at Phase 11 last night. The action was taken on the complaint of ETT teacher Karamjit Singh a resident of Phase 11. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the suspect at the Vigilance Police Station. Karamjit Singh had lodged a complaint against him and the suspect was arrested near the victim's house in Phase 11 in the presence of two witnesses. He was suspended by the Education Department after his arrest but in 2019 he was acquitted.

      The police have now registered a case of death by negligence against unknown persons. Gagan Rai (26) a labourer from Saharsa Bihar volunteered to rescue the trapped worker but he too fell down and died. Gagan a construction labourer from Saharsa was a Good Samaritan who tried to rescue the trapped worker without safety gear. Former municipal councillor Satbir Singh Dhanoa demanded compensation to the heirs of the deceased and said strict action should be taken against the persons responsible for the deaths. Gagan Rai (26) a labourer from Saharsa Bihar volunteered to rescue the trapped worker but he too fell down and died.

Most of the colonisers who have been booked operate in the Jhampur Ballomajra and Behlolpur areas. It is a bailable offence no person has been arrested till now.”A common grievance of residents is that GMADA demolishes illegal constructions causing losses to buyers but takes no action against colonisers who raise unauthorised construction on agricultural land. On March 16 GMADA demolished 60 illegal under-construction structures at Jhampur village. A day later officials went to demolish 58 illegal houses in the Behlolpur area but had to return after stiff resistance from residents.

The certificate was to be submitted to the respective SDM/ADC/DC office he added. Dayalan said the limit on the gathering would be 100 for indoor and 200 for outdoor events. He said the orders would not apply to containment areas. Any violation would invite criminal proceedings under the Disaster Management Act 2005 and the Indian Penal Code 1860 he added.

While he was returning to Mohali from Zirakpur he parked his car on the roadside to relieve himself. The duo threatened him to handover the cash at gunpoint and took Rs80000 from him and Rs10000 kept in his bag.
