As many as 754 new Covid-19 positive cases were also reported here, bringing the tally of cases to 38,316.

Mohali district’s recovery rate stood at 81.39 per cent on Sunday. A total of 29,360 patients have recovered in the district so far.

Mullanpur police arrested two persons, identified as Mandeep Singh and Prabhjot Singh, near Bharaujian village. Police officials said the accused were digging sand from the shamlat (village common land) with a JCB machine. Police also recovered the tractor-trolleys and the JCB machine from the accused.

The tally of cases in the district increased to 35,193, with 5,781 active cases.

As many as 605 new Covid-19 positive cases were also reported, increasing the number of cases to 34,449. There are 5,515 active cases in the district at present.

Police had received a tip off that the owner of Jashan Dhaba, Amarjeet Singh was involved in the illegal business of selling diesel at cheaper rate. The accused would connive with oil tanker drivers and take out diesel from tankers to sell it at cheaper rates.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Girish Dayalan said 472 patients were deemed cured and discharged from hospitals and home isolation. He added that a total of 28,132 patients have been cured so far.

Eleven deaths were reported from Amritsar, seven from Jalandhar and six each from Ludhiana and Patiala.

According to the police, those arrested were identified as Mohsin Ansari (28) and Rahul Sharma (26). They were arrested from near Khanpur Chowk in Kharar, on the basis of a tip-off.

The active cases stood at 3,121, while 313 people were also discharged upon recovery.

The new court will deal with cases of matrimonial disputes including maintenance and divorce cases.
