Amrik Singh Somal is a three-time councillor. He is among the senior-most councillors in the party and had defeated heavyweight candidate Kulwant Singh.
As many as 27 wards were required for a majority in the 50-member House, which Congress achieved comfortably and wrested the municipal corporation from SAD after a gap of ten years.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer (DEO) Girish Dayalan said that the elections were held for seven MCs of Derabassi, Kharar, Nayagaon, Banur, Lalru, Kurali and Zirakpur on February 14.
Paramjeet Singh Kahlon alleged that the poll staff was working under the pressure of Sidhu and some people had voted by using fake ID proofs. He further alleged that booths were captured by Jeeti and Congress leader Davinder Babla.
The Deputy Commissioner and District Electoral Officer Girish Dayalan thanked the people of the district for the peaceful elections and said that the voting percentage was good. He also lauded the poll staff for conducting the elections peacefully.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Girish Dayalan said that 28 patients recovered and were discharged. He added that a total of 18,993 patients have been cured so far.
Another interesting battle might be on display in ward no 2 where the contest is directly between SAD's Harman Preet Singh Prince and independent candidate and former Deputy Mayor, Manjeet Singh Sethi.
Speaking further, the DC said that out of 16 cases reported Friday, a maximum of 14 were reported from Mohali (Urban) and one each was reported from Dhakoli and Kharar.
In 2013, Amanpreet Singh, advocate, was shot dead outside his residence in Phase 3A due to a parking-related issue. An increasing number of unauthorised paying guest houses in the city has further increased parking-related issues in the city.
“I lodged the complaint with the local police but action has been taken so far. I shall lodge a complaint with the state election commission,” Sharma said.
The complainant in the case, Nishant Bindal told the police that on the night of February 5, two men arrived and pointed a pistol at him as he closing the shop. Nishant Bindal runs Balaji Hyper Mart Departmental Store near Cannaught Palace on the Landran-Banur road.
However, the district administration claimed that the vaccination drive was going on at a good pace. “Total 138 sessions were held for administering the jabs. There is considerable pace in administering the vaccine,” said an official.
