      Tribune News ServiceAmritsar April 17Students of DAV Public School excelled in the 58th National Roller Skating Championship organised by the Roller Skating Federation of India at United Sports Club Dhelpur Mohali from April 1 to April 11. Over 3000 players participated in the annual championship where DAV school's team including Rahul Rai and Mehak Gupta bagged gold and bronze medals respectively. Rahul Rai (Class XII) clinched the gold medal in Lap Road Race while in rollar skating prodigy Mehak Gupta bagged bronze medal in 100m Road Race. Mehak also got selected for trial and national. Principal Anita Mehra school applauded the efforts of the students and blessed them for their future endeavours.

      Mohali: Due to leakage in the pipeline from the Kajauli waterworks to Chandigarh near Madoli village the water supply will be affected on Saturday. 2 Waterworks and Sanitation Department said the supply would be affected in Phase 1 to 11 Sector 70-71 Mataur and Shahimajra villages and the Industrial Area Phase 1 to 5 in Mohali. He said water would be supplied at low pressure in morning and evening. Gulshan (26) a resident of Bapu Dham Colony was arrested from near the Transport Chowk area in Sector 26 with 400 gm of ganja. The police opened the suitcase and found clothes in it.

    • Fortis Max among seven private hospitals in Mohali to set aside 50 bed capacity for COVID patients | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceChandigarh April 16The Mohali administration on Friday ordered the seven private hospitals to set aside at least 50 per cent of their total bed capacity as isolation beds and wards for COVID care. “The district possesses minimal public health infrastructure given that the district hospital is under re-construction as a medical college – which will take time. The Civil Surgeon Mohali shall decide on the exact number of beds and ambulances based on overall capacity of the hospital. Private hospitals in the district shall not refuse admission or treatment to patients of COVID-19 referred by the Civil Surgeon Mohali. The hospitals shall ensure that staff – doctors nurses and paramedics—are all available on duty and no one shall refuse treatment.

      Tribune News ServiceZirakpur April 16As many as 51 persons tested positive for Covid-19 out of the 1321 rapid antigen tests conducted in the Dhakoli containment zone here today. Of 213 persons tested for Covid-19 at Sushma Crescent Housing Society 18 were found infected. Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan and Mohali SSP Satinder Singh visited the Dhakoli area and took stock of the situation. Covid beds doubled at Mohali Civil HospitalMohali: The Mohali Health Department has increased the number of beds in Level-2 Covid ward of the Civil Hospital Phase VI here from 30 to 60. Civil Surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur said a 20-bed Covid ward had been reserved at Government Hospital Dhakoli so that it could be used as and when required.

    • Plastic bottle recycling machine installed in Mohali | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      The Punjab State Council for Science and Technology joined hands with the Punjab Pollution Control Board to install a plastic bottle recycling machine in the Phase 3B2 market in Mohali on Friday. Cabinet Minister and local MLA Balbir Sidhu inaugurated the machine in the presence of Dr SS Marwaha Chairman PPCB and Jatinder Kaur Arora Executive Director Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. The machine has a capacity to crush 500 bottles per hour.

The police arrested accused Harjot Singh a resident of Mohali on February 10 2021 two days after the alleged robbery in the bank. He threatened the bank employees and managed to commit a robbery of Rs865452 before escaping from the spot. The additional public prosecutor opposed the bail application in view of the nature and the gravity of the offence. The contention regarding improper identification of the applicant as the accused would now be a matter of trial.
    • 185 industrial workers jabbed at MIA camp | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceMohali April 8About 185 industrial workers were given the Covid vaccine jab during a camp organised by the Mohali Industries Association (MIA) in association with the Health Department at the MIA Bhawan here on Thursday. Yogesh Sagar president MIA said industrial workers were vaccinated by a Health Department team comprising a doctor and two nurses. He said all employees were above 45 years of age as mandated by the government and the health team was equipped with 200 vaccines. He said as it was not possible for the workers to visit the vaccination centres during the duty hours so they decided to organise a camp on the MIA complex. Rajeev Gupta general secretary MIA said seeing the success of the camp it was decided that a vaccination camp would be organised every day either at the MIA Bhawan or on the premises of a member unit.

With 850 cases in past one week Dhakoli area of Zirakpur in Mohali district has become the hotspot as maximum number of cases has surfaced in the area. About 1100 Covid positive cases have surfaced in the Dhakoli area since April 1. Confirming the same Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said Dhakoli has been converted into containment zone in view of the high number of cases concentrated in the area for the last four days. He said after the Covid testing every eligible person in the area would be vaccinated before opening the containment zone.
    • 10 nabbed for hooliganism at Mohali s Purab Apartments | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Mohali April 12Ten youths were arrested for hooliganism and flouting Covid norms at Purab Apartments in Sector 88 here on Sunday night. The police have also seized two cars from the suspects. They have been identified as Arundeep Parampreet Gurvinder Amanjot Pantprakash Arshpreet Singh Simranpreet Singh Akashdeep Singh Amanpreet Singh and Parvinder Singh. A case has been registered against them under Section 188 of the IPC at the Sohana police station. The suspects were later released on bail.

Amrik Singh Somal and Kuljit Singh Bedi were elected the Senior Deputy Mayor and the Deputy Mayor respectively. Cabinet Minister Sidhu said they had declared that Rishav Jain would be the Mayor after two and a half years while Narpinder Singh Rangi would be the Senior Deputy Mayor. He said the Deputy Mayor would be decided later. A majority of the councillors including the newly elected Mayor Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor were seen without a mask and did not maintain the distance despite the fact that Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu was present at the MC House meeting.

Twenty-five seats were reserved for women and the Congress candidates won on 37 seats. Councillors of Azad group would be main party sitting in opposition in the 50-member House.

According to information in September last year the Health Department had conducted 32747 Covid tests and 6254 were found positive showing 19 per cent positivity rate. Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said the district was gradually ramping up the testing capacity. As per the data Mohali district was conducting 1700 tests per million population while Punjab was conducting 1086 tests. The government Covid vaccination centres are open seven days a week.
